Drawn Together

Drawn Together: A Coming of Middle Age Story in 61 Portraits is a project created by artists Kirsten Ervin and Suzanne Werder in the midst of the COVID Pandemic. During January of 2022, Ervin and Werder drew each other every day , resulting in 31 unique portraits of the other. The pair exhibited the work at UnSmoke Art Systems in Braddock, PA in April, 2022.

About half the portraits were created during live sessions in Ervin’s home, the other half created from selfies the two sent to each other. The result is an intimate investigation into the artists’ everyday lives, and the nuances and slight changes in each person over time.

Kirsten Ervin is a Pittsburgh-based artist exploring the intersection of illustration and fiber. Ervin has created collaborative fiber art and portrait projects during residencies with The Children’s Museum, The Kelly Strayhorn Theater and The Pittsburgh International Airport. Ervin’s work has been featured at SPACE Gallery, Three Rivers Arts Festival, UnSmoke Systems ArtSpace and others. Ervin teaches art throughout Pittsburgh and  sells her work at Argyle Studio.  She is a member of the Pittsburgh Creative Corps, the Fiber Arts Guild of Pittsburgh, Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and Group A.  She and her husband Willard Simmons coordinate The Silver Apple Gallery, one of Pittsburgh’s smallest art venues.  Kirstenervin.org
