Portrait of Suzanne by Kirsten

“This image happened in my studio. Suzanne was wearing this beautiful outfit of soft pink layers, lying on giant pillows on the floor. She did kind of a backbend pose which was hard to hold. This drawing is made mostly with oil pastel, some colored pencil. I decided to draw the face and hands separately on paper and cut them out. I was inspired by the artist Marisol – faces drawn in one color and lots of color everywhere else.” – Kirsten Ervin

Portrait of Kirsten by Suzanne

“This portrait uses the classic art pose of the Odalisque but subverts it. Although this drawing has lots of patterned fabrics (including gorgeous pants made by Otto Finn) and a figure reclining on her side, it differs from harem paintings in a number of ways, including the bulky sweater, the cardboard box and studio clutter.” – Suzanne Werder.
